RODNEY STRONG
VINEYARDS TO DEBUT
NEW MERITAGE RELEASE
AT MENDOCINO HOTEL
WINEMAKER'S DINNER
MENDOCINO, Calif. April 3, 2001 -- The Mendocino
Hotel, Rodney Strong Vineyards, and guest chef Brian
Stapleton will join forces for a very special winemaker's
dinner on Sunday, May 7, starting at 6 p.m. in the
Victorian Restaurant at the historic Mendocino Hotel
& Garden Suites.
Brian Stapleton, executive chef at The Carolina Inn
in North Carolina, will preside as guest chef to create a
sumptuous menu of contemporary southern cuisine
masterfully paired with Rodney Strong wines. The menu
features Carolina style hors d'oeuvres, paired with
Rodney Strong 1998 Charlotte's Home Sauvignon Blanc;
seared sea scallops, braised greens, crayfish, spring
corn, country ham and hometown hushpuppies paired with
the 1998 Chalk Hill Chardonnay; buttermilk marinated pork
tenderloin, caramelized vidalia onion spoonbread, apple
slaw and sage broth with Rodney Strong 1997 Russian River
Valley Pinot Noir; maple cured muscovy breast of duck,
striped beets, artichoke and fava bean ragout, whipped
sweet potatoes, shallot and cider flavored game jus with
the newly released Rodney Strong 1996 Symmetry; followed
by rhubarb pie and vanilla bean ice cream. Chef Stapleton
will be assisted by Mendocino Hotel's executive chef,

the evening, Rodney Strong Vineyards will premiere the
1996 Symmetry, their first Meritage style wine ever
produced. Attributes such as Alexander Valley
appellation, mountain and hillside vineyards, and an
outstanding blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot,
and 10% Cabernet Franc combine to make a velvet-smooth,
rich wine with deep blackberry color and flavors of
blueberry, black cherry, dark roast coffee, and licorice.
Located just south of Healdsburg and founded in 1959,
Rodney Strong is one of the pioneers of the modern wine
industry and one of Sonoma County's most
acclaimed wineries.
Executive Chef Stapleton graduated from the
California Culinary Academy in San Francisco in 1983.
